It’s the beginning of Fall and it certainly feels like it today! We tend to stay indoors more and exercise less. But we need to consider taking care of ourselves even during the colder months, so I want to delve into aches and pains especially when we are involved in a car accident. Since, being involved in a car accident is no joke and definitely a pain in your back – no pun intended!
Here are some tips or steps on what to do when this traumatic life-changing event happens to you. First, contact your insurance adjuster immediately and explain the details and injuries sustained. Second, seek medical attention (visit your medical/family doctor or attend a walk-in clinic) to get a diagnosis of your injuries, Thirdly. advise your employer if your injuries prevent you from working more than 7 days after the accident and lastly, please begin therapy – the sooner you get treatment, the better your recovery time and the sooner you can get your life back on track. If you are up to it, go for short walks to get some fresh air and try to stay in tune with nature. Your body and mind will thank you.
It’s also a good idea to confirm with your insurance adjuster whether your injuries are considered Minor as you would be categorized under the Minor Injury Guideline and receive up to $3500 of treatment. If you suffer from non-minor injuries – let’s say severe anxiety, a fracture and/or concussion, your injuries would be considered ‘outside’ of the MIG criteria (or non-MIG/non-minor) and you would be eligible for medical/rehabilitation (aka treatment) as well as attendant care assistance (aka. a personal support worker) of up to $65,000.00.
If you need further clarification or assistance on the above or assistance with completing the Ontario Claim Forms (OCF), please feel free to send me an email.
May you be safe and healthy during these cooler months!
